About Engagement Rings
An Engagement ring is made of three parts; the band which goes around the finger they are usually made of silver, platinum or gold, the second part is the setting which holds the stone and is made of the same material as the band and finally the stone.
Types of Stone
The most popular stone for an Engagement ring is the diamond.
Round — The most popular shape for a diamond as it shows off the brilliance.
Princess — A square cut diamond usually looks bigger than other shapes of the same weight.
Emerald Cut — A rectangular diamond and sophisticated cut
Marquis — Although it’s also round, it looks longer than a round or oval cut diamond.
Oval — This cut is similar to the round cut, but looks bigger because of its shape. This shape works best with larger stones.
When you go shopping for a diamond remember the ‘Four C’ Rule.
Colour: the clearer the diamond the more expensive. Diamonds are graded D to Z.
Cut: the cut is not the shape of the diamond but the way the diamond reflects the light. This is substantiated by an AGS or GIA certificate from an approved dealer.
Clarity: diamonds often have flaws and these can affect the grading of the clarity can affect the price.
Caret: this refers to the size of the diamond.
You could consider another stone like Ruby or Opal it really depends on your taste. Why not ask your family whether there are any heirloom Rings.
Lifestyle
When choosing a wedding ring it is important to consider the lifestyle of the wearer. Do they need a ring that can withstand wear and tear then consider a low set, hard stone ring. Otherwise go for a more obviously ostentatious high cut ring with more wow factor.
